Matraia

Matraia is located in the town of Capannori in the province of Lucca. The church of Matraia is in a good position from which we have broad vision on the great plain of Lucca, which starts from the hills of Monte Carlo to those Morianesi. Originally, the primitive church of Matraia arose before Coviglia thousand in localities under the name of St. Angelo. The first document we have is dated November 29 984 which makes known the church of "St. Angelo Materaria, in the village Covillule." From the documents later you can guess that the present church was certainly built between 1071 and 1234.
